This dish is quite simple and suitable for lean days. It can be a standalone dish or a great side dish for fish or meat. Fried onion and apple side dish pairs well with cranberries or red currants. Adding berries will make the dish even tastier, and adding herbs will make it simply festive.
Yellow Onion
1 cup (about 250 g)
Apples
1 cup (about 250 g) (tart)
Mustard
2 tsp (whole grain)
Salt
2 pinches
Sugar
pinch
Garlic
1/2 clove
Black Pepper
1/2 tsp (ground)
Flour
Sunflower Oil
for frying (refined)
To prepare the fried onion and apple side dish, slice the onion into half rings and coat in flour.
Cut the apples into small slices.
First, sauté the onion until slightly browned. Then add the apples, as well as salt, sugar, and pepper. Gently mix everything and sauté for another 2-3 minutes.
Keep an eye on the apples, they should not turn into mush.
Add mustard and a little garlic to the finished dish, to taste. Garnish with parsley and cranberries. Fried onion and apple side dish is ready!
